Despite all the hoopla, the six-member HC Bhargava committee, which visited IIM Ahmedabad on Friday, underplayed the fee hike issue.
The committee arrived here this morning to hold a meeting with IIM-A Director Sameer Barua and other senior faculty members of the institute.
Bhargava said the committee paid a visit to the institute with an 11-point term of reference. “Our terms of reference include 11 aspects. We are here to review all these aspects. The fee hike is just one of the terms,” he said.
He, nevertheless, admitted that in its interim report submitted on April 4, the committee had asked the Centre to ask all the IIMs to defer any increase in fee till the submission of its final report.
Bhargava said the committee has already visited Bangalore and will visit the other IIMs before submitting its final report to the HRD Ministry.
When asked whether the committee’s recommendation to hold back the fee hike was being implemented, Bhargava said, it was for the IIMs to implement it. “The implementation of the fee hike rests with the respective institutions,” he said.
Barua told Newsline that so far the institute has only received a communiqué from the HRD Ministry informing them about the report.
“So the status-quo remains,” Barua said.
The IIM-A board will meet again on Saturday to discuss the fee hike and the quota implementation issue.
