Chief Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the Gujarat Technical University and Gujarat Knowledge Corporation on the day the Assembly elections were announced, in the LD Engineering College campus.
After spending Rs 65 lakh on the stone laying ceremony and the landscaping to beautify the campus, the government has suddenly realized that the space available at the LD campus of eight acres would not be sufficient for the new university and has now changed plans.
This university and the knowledge corporation will now come up in the campus of state-run Vishwakarma Engineering College at Chandkheda.
Here, the new technical university will have 23.81 acres to set up its campus and facilities.
Principal of the Vishwakarma Engineering College, MR Patel said, "We have agreed to the request made by the education department, as we have 50 acres of land. All this space was not required by us and if we would not have given the land then the location of this new university would have shifted to Gandhinagar."
"With this university coming up in our campus it would definitely help our students as well," Patel added.
