THERE is no official proposal yet from the power technical experts of Ahmedabad, India, but Commonwealth Utilities Corp. Executive Director Anthony C. Guerrero says any help assistance will be appreciated by CUC.
Guerrero said CUC has a contract with Man B&W in Japan and another group from Guam for the maintenance of Saipan’s power plants.
He said CUC welcomes any suggestions that can help solve its problems.
Recently, Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela met with his counterpart in Ahmedabad, India to forge a sister-city agreement.
Tudela said power experts in Ahmedabad were willing to extend technical support to Saipan’s ailing power generation.
The power experts and other members of the India delegation, according to CNMI businessman Tony Glad, who facilitated the signing of the agreement, are expected to arrive Saipan soon.
Guerrero said he met the mayor of Ahmedabad, India and talked about power generation issues.
CUC, he added, needs power experts that can help the rehabilitation of power plants 1 and 4.
“Most of our effort are at engine power plant 1 primarily because it has the largest units that produce power,” he said.
Early this year, CUC signed a $600,000 contract for the purchase, shipping, and installment of a new crankshaft.
At least four firms from the U.S., Japan, Singapore and Australia have been hired by CUC to work on the power plant.
Guerrero was quoted as saying that CUC has “now issued most of the notices to mobilize these firms which are supplying specialized engine parts, determining the root causes and solutions of maintenance issues, finding the most reputable vendors, and improving efficiency at the plant.”
