The state government will inaugurate a multi-sports complex in Khokhra area in the city in the coming week. This complex, spread over seven acres, is one of its kind in the state. It will have a combination of indoor games facilities and outdoor games arena. A unique feature of this complex is that there is not much seating space for the audience. Every bit of space is utilised for sportsmen.
"It's a place for recreation, for sportsmen to come and practise and a wellness centre. The complex has two floors apart from the ground floor and is set up at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore," says a senior sports authority official.
There is a boxing ring, a gym, yoga centre, a table tennis arena on the second floor and a separate hall for badminton. For outdoor facilities, there is a basketball court, a 200-metre athletic track, a separate court for kabbadi, kho-kho and volleyball.
The sports complex is part of the Rs 30 crore project envisaged to build 11 sports centres across the state. Other places where similar complexes have been set up or are coming up are in Rajpipla, Limbdi, Patan, Himmatnagar, Gandhidham, Amreli and Godhra.
