AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has finally issued notices to bring down the famous Rangbhavan complex near Raipur Chakla in Khadia area. The structure which is believed to be half-a-century old is giving way to a sports complex.

Rangbhavan was operated by the labour welfare board trust and was used by them for organizing cultural and social events. It had an amphitheatre, an open ground and a stage. It was the point of meeting for many in east Ahmedabad. Many families in Khadia have nostalgic memories associated with the building. Several modern day plays were held here, according to local AMC corporator Bhushan Bhatt. "For many years now the place had been lying idle."
