Teachers, parents and citizens, concerned about the quality of education in municipal schools had an argument with municipal school board authorities in Navrangpura after board officials refused to hear their appeals under RTI Act.

The RTI applications ranged from toilet facilities in municipal schools to issues related to cleanliness, teacher-student ratio and individual grievances. Around 40-odd applicants waited outside the administrative officer's office for close to 2 hours.

"Administrative officer LD Desai has been these avoiding questions for the last three months. We have been called thrice in three months when he was not present. Each time, we get a new date. RTI rules say that an appellate officer has to hear us within 30 days," says RTI applicant MK Modh who has travelled thrice from Mehsana for the RTI hearing.
