Teachers, parents and citizens, concerned about the quality of education in municipal schools had an argument with municipal school board authorities in Navrangpura after board officials refused to hear their appeals under RTI Act.

The RTI applications ranged from toilet facilities in municipal schools to issues related to cleanliness, teacher-student ratio and individual grievances. Around 40-odd applicants waited outside the administrative officer's office for close to 2 hours.

The trust that gave Gujarat University shelter during initial days has decided to launch a university. Ahmedabad University
(AU) of Ahmedabad Education Society (AES) is all set to offer admissions to students for the academic year 2009-10.

In the first year, the university will have two schools School of Management and Commerce and School of ICT with 3,135 students.

University status will bring academic, institutional, operational and financial autonomy to AES. Students will be admitted based on merit and there is also a financial aid policy for needy students.

One of the oldest education societies in western India, AES was established in 1935, when there was only one college in existence in Ahmedabad.

AES today runs 10 colleges and 11 schools and academic institutions in Gujarat. Five of the 10 colleges are self-financed and others are grant-in-aid institutions. It has hostel facilities providing residential accommodation to more than 1,000 boys and 250 girl students.

AU will offer graduate, postgraduate, doctorate degree, post doctorate programmes and professional diplomas. "AES has received a Letter of Intent from Government of Gujarat to establish AU. Each of the 11 schools will be headed by a dean and will offer several graduate and postgraduate programmes," said Naishadh Parikh, AES secretary.

Governing body of AES includes chairman Shrenik Kasturbhai, eminent industrialist and philanthropist, president Sanjay Lalbhai, managing director of Arvind Mills, vice president Sudhir Mehta, chairman and managing director of Torrent Group, member Prafull Anubhai, industrialist and educationist and other eminent members.

The first set of programmes to be offered are bachelor of business administration (BBA) offered by HLBBA, bachelor of commerce (BCom) offered by HL Institute of Commerce, bachelor of computer application (BCA) offered by HLBCA and masters in business administration (MBA) offered by HLMBA.

AHMEDABAD: Teachers' crunch is set to get worse in schools across the state as more students are refusing to take up teaching as a career option. Many are opting out of teaching courses, thanks to meager pay in schools and poor incentives. The number of students enrolling into primary teachers certificate (PTC) course is dwindling by the day, as salaries in schools are low even though the job is time-consuming.

મેડિકલ, પેરામેડિકલની ૩૯૫ બેઠકોનું આજથી રિશફલિંગ

ધોરણ ૧૨ સાયન્સ પછીની મેડિકલ-ડેન્ટલ સહિતની પેરામેડિકલ શાખાની ખાલી ૩૯૫ બેઠકોની રિશફલિંગ પ્રક્રિયા ૨૮ સપ્ટેમ્બરથી શરૂ થશે. આ પ્રવેશપ્રક્રિયા અંતર્ગત ૩૦મી સપ્ટેમ્બર સુધી મેડિકલ-ડેન્ટલ સહિતની પેરામેડિકલ શાખાની બેઠકોને આવરી લેવાશે. મેરિટમાં સ્થાન ધરાવનારા ગુજરાત બોર્ડ, આઇસીએસસી, સીબીએસઈ બોર્ડના વિધાર્થીઓને રિશફલિંગ પ્રક્રિયા માટે બોલાવાયા છે.
